don’t touch my hair. our hair is long. our hair is kinky. our hair is beautiful. growing up i didn’t love and appreciate my natural hair, especially when it was labeled as messy when it wasn’t straight or tied up. so i relaxed it because it was easier to maintain and was the more “accepting” style. I never wore my natural hair out until this year. i didn’t like it, I didn’t feel comfortable, I didn’t feel beautiful and it made me feel less confident. I wanted to change that. The past couple of months i’ve been having my natural hair out more and learning new ways to work with my hair and learning what products work for me. Today i’m finally in a place where i’m more comfortable wearing my natural hair out. but i wish i had felt this way from a younger age. as a big sister I love embracing my natural hair now and showing my younger sisters that they are beautiful with their natural hair. I want them to find happiness in through their kinks and curls. we have so much versatility when it comes to our hair, box braids, cornrows, twists you name it but I want my other black brothers and sisters to know that our natural hair is also part of our look.
