PSA It seems there is still confusion about avoiding retinoids and retinol during pregnancy. There are a host of ingredients, foods and activities to avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding and retinoids and retinol are one of them. There are no studies / evidence that suggests topical vitamin A as retinol or retinoids cause birth defects. However, studies to test their safety during pregnancy are not conducted for obvious reasons - so the beauty industry practices the most cautious option, which is to avoid them during pregnancy and breastfeeding, due to the science of INGESTING vitamin A and the evidence of toxic overdose. When formulated correctly, Vitamin A / retinoids are one of the most effective and well-studied skincare ingredients. So yes, everyone needs a retinoid - if that’s part of your skin goals - Just don’t use it during pregnancy and breastfeeding 😉
