Happy Mexican Independence Day! 16 De Septiembre or 16th of September is a very important day in Mexico and to its descendants in the US 💪🏽🇲🇽 On September 16th 1810, Mexico declared it’s Independence from Spanish Rule. Mexicans still celebrate that Independence by letting out a “Grito de Dolores” on the eve of September 15th. The Spanish rule in Mexico was a forced assimilation to Catholicism, genocide of Indigenous Peoples, erasure of Native languages, banning of ceremonial practices, theft of land, water, riches and generational teachings that had been passed down since time immemorial.
