Huzzah, the morsel I didn’t know I needed today. My Joe singing Randy Newman this day last year dressed as the Wolf-man at @brownranger and @totalpunk45s house. He should be here. Today. With me physically in the world. I shouldn’t be alone in a dark hotel room with the last shirt I saw him in squeezed against my cheek. He loved the Meltdown so much and came every year that we got together even though it was the worst timing for farming. He had to escape sometimes for only 30 hours in order to get back to the broccoli! I remember how excited he was to see NRBQ a few years back. Watching Iggy, Devo, Amyl Sheer Mag....he was the ultimate stage dad but in a good way. Every time I posted on Instagram my sweet stage dad Joe text me that I spelled something wrong or forgot to attach a link lol. I really relied on that! He made sure I had set lists and water and was on time. He’d bring me a sneaky tequila, troubleshoot merch stuff. And when I’d try to weasel out of bringing merch (it’s hard to do all this music stuff AND haul around boxes and do math etc) he’d make sure it happened so that there was something for fans. Not focused on making money but focused and making sure I was always considering fans. He was the ultimate fan, the ultimate collector. He always wanted to help with merch ideas, he had so many ideas!! SHIT! Why didn’t I record every single word he ever said to me! I guess because that would have been absolutely insane. Thee John Waters told me I was the new Jackie O and that she also had no choice but to just keep going. I don’t want this new reality but it’s the only one I’ve got. I am so grateful to people who are sharing their love of Joe with me. I love being around his friends and family because they know how many facets there are on the gem of Joe. LOTS, countless. Tonight is gonna be really great and really hard. I’m telling myself the audience will have a hunky wolf man in it tonight holding a beer to his chest beaming at me.
