🏃🏽‍♀️🏈 NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY 🏀⚾ Today, we honor the achievements of female athletes, the power of sports to transform lives, and the fight for equity on every court, field, and sideline. This year’s theme: “Lead Her Forward.” I hope I have been “living” that theme, sending the elevator back down to help other young women rise. 🚘 Let’s take a trip done memory lane… My journey started as a little girl with big dreams and skinny legs 😂 … hence my “GeNienne Bean” (as in string bean) nickname 🤦🏽‍♀️… running cross country, indoor and outdoor track… starting at Brookland Middle School… ending as a Panther at Hermitage High. My dad — a Florida A&M track star and championship track coach at Armstrong High — passed down his grit. My mom — a fierce softball player — passed down her power. I cheered two years in high school, then four years in college at UofR @spidercheer … then the pros — for the Washington Redskins (now Commanders)… voted in as a Pro Bowl Cheerleader and then for the Washington Wizards. I became an in-game host for the Mystics, Wizards, Washington Spirit, Baltimore Brigade, and now the Commanders. In the middle of it all, in 2009, I took the torch and lit the way for others… launching Sideline Prep @sidelineprep to help aspiring pro cheerleaders step into their spotlight. My point?? If I can… we all can. Because women belong. In the arena. On the field. At the front of the pack. And we’re just getting started. 💪🏽✨ PS - Anyone else having dining this ChatGPT caricature trend?? #NGWSD #LeadHerForward #GirlsInSports #SidelinePrep #RepresentationMatters
