Though our food vendors shut down for the winter, our gardens stay open for (bird) business. Our gardeners leave plants to overwinter naturally—meaning that they don't cut them back before winter sets in—which allows seed heads and berries to provide food for birds all winter long. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might catch a bird snacking, like this mockingbird noshing on Red Sprite winterberry (Ilex verticillata ‘Red Sprite’).
📍 Find Red Sprite winterberry on the High Line between Gansevoort and 14th Streets, and between 20th and 23rd Streets
