Most tequila is agave and water. But increasingly, tequilas are hitting the market with a lot of different flavors inserted. The bottle label must disclose if the tequila has flavorings by using the words “infused” or “flavors added” But these openly disclosed flavors are VERY different from additives in tequila. Additives are: - oak extract caramel coloring sweeteners glycerin. Any tequila can contain up to 1% of these chemicals without any mention of it on the label whatsoever. It’s a secret! These additives aren’t harmful necessarily, but they are often used to change the flavor of a tequila or cover up defects. When you sip a blanco tequila that tastes like a VANILLA FROSTY from Wendy’s....that’s additives. It’s not a tequila, it’s a tequiLIE In general, I’m not a huge fan of infused tequilas because I’d rather taste agave. But infused tequilas can be handy cocktail shortcuts, and at least consumers like me and you know what they’re getting, unlike with the secret additives. For a list of tequilas that are confirmed additive-free, download the @tequilamatchmaker app. #t#tequilal#learntequilai#infusedc#cocktailsb#bartendera#additivesd#drinkthisa#agavemexico
