Today marks three years exactly since I gave my TEDx talk at the museum of London in 2018!!🤯 I was 23 years old, fresh into this field of work, and flying by the seat of my pants. My activism, feminism and campaigning have grown a lot since this talk, and that’s part of the reason why I have been so hesitant to post it. ⠀
⠀
However another reason I never posted it was because all of the TEDx talks from this event were never uploaded in the first place. For reasons that are too long and boring to go into, all footage was actually lost for more than a year. If we wanted to share them, then we had to edit them together ourselves. (That’s why the video and audio is kinda choppy/ crappy btw - don’t ask) 🤷♀️ ⠀
⠀
I’ve wrestled with posting this for a long time, but I thought if I don’t post it now, I probably never will. If anything, it’s a reminder of how 3 years on, I’ve learnt to be more inclusive in my language, more intersectional in my feminism, and more open to accepting criticism.⠀
⠀
An example of this is that when I refer to “women” in my talk, I want to emphasise that I mean ALL women, cis, trans and intersex. And emphasise that sexual harassment affects non-binary people and marginalised genders too. Because this is an intersectional issue, and that’s something I failed to highlight when I originally gave this talk. ⠀
⠀
So If I was giving this talk today, there’s a lot I would say differently. 🗣But either way, here it is. Head to the link in my bio ~ if you’d like to watch 🎥🎞 Thanks for listening to my TED talk 💁♀️
