Devastating. Repost from @auerbachtoberfest • Though we all knew this was coming, I didn’t anticipate the physicality of the emotion I’d feel when reading the news this morning, a nausea, a panic. Like so many, I have taken the right to control my own health decisions as a given, the possibility of an abortion if necessary has been possible since I was a child. Looking back at photos from a 1989 rally for women’s lives, the DC mall was filled with women who still remembered life before Roe; at the time it seemed to me ancient history, an antiquated relic. Entering today into territory we thought we left behind, I recall the grisly photos of lethal “back alley” abortions that women brought with them to the rally, along with the memories of those who died.
