Well what a week, a big week of analysing & processing the Federal Governments announcement to scrap PEP11. I was seriously apprehensive when I first heard the news last week, from a government that has been anything but supportive of this campaign. But PEP11 IS SQAUSHED, for now & no longer lingers over the heads of communities, a huge win for PEOPLE POWER!. It proves that if communities opposes an issue, rally & come together we can make change & stop our politicians from making bad decisions that jeopardise our future. It hasn’t been easy, four years of campaigning, paddle-outs, live music events, petitions, interviews, articles, posts and even a delegation to Federal Parliament, Canberra to get this on the table. But we did it, thanks to communities up & down the coast and organisations like Save Our Coast, Surfrider Foundation, Surfers For Climate & many more. Let’s be clear on this though, the current Federal Government made this decision in fear of losing votes in the upcoming election, they’re not our leaders, they didn’t lead on this campaign they followed & tried to take the credit for our action. We know that community rules & that’s why we’re going to be taking the momentum from this win & the win from the Fight for the Bight battle into the new year and put an end to the governments offshore ‘gas led recovery’. Until then, we can all enjoy our Christmas Season & celebrate what was 2021 knowing that together we saved the future of our coast.
