Video by @joelsartore The largest of the 10,000 known millipede species, the giant African millipede reaches anywhere from 4 to 12 inches in length (10-30 cm). Millipedes are detrivores, which means that they feed on dead and decaying organic matter within their habitat. Once food is digested, these critters leave their nutrient-rich droppings all along the forest floor, creating new soil that helps plant life and other species that rely on the rainforest to thrive.
