Opening tonight at SN37 Gallery - Shaniqwa Jarvis: Sleep to Dream. Jarvis has, for a long time, explored the space between photography and dreamscape. Like a photograph, a dream or memory gives us a powerful - and sometimes hallucinogenic - moment in time upon which to reflect and find new meaning. The works in Sleep to Dream propose photography as energetic seance; Jarvis is determined to welcome into her practice the indetermination of our murky world. To this end, the artist has chosen to paint the gallery walls black such that the works emerge from darkness as equally as they emerge from light.
