country cutie patootie’s 🩵 last night i interviewed my brilliant, beautiful sister @mickeyguyton. felt like we were just talking on the phone, except this time we three-wayed in the dopest students & creatives over at @grammyu. mickey, you’re forever the greatest & ily. ~for the GRAMMY U students that attended- damn yall were the best, sweetest, most fun crowd. pls let’s sing Jon B & talk abt Willie’s early outlaw days again soon :)) back when i was a college student in GRAMMY U, i signed up to attend events like this every semester. like, i added my name to every waitlist as soon as the announcement posted. i was intense lol. i left those events feeling a little more connected & prepared for the road i hoped was ahead for me in music. i felt relieved when someone touched on a subject or a burning question in my aggressively curious brain. i loved the intimate performances and how artists talked freely & were generous with all the students who they knew watched them in hopes of getting to do the same thing one day. i left those events thinking, ‘maybe i can actually succeed in this business.. maybe there’s a place for me in this town.’ unfortunately when you put out a single or album, no one asks if you went to college or if you ever did GRAMMY U.. lol. and frankly, the industry is always changing and the rules we’re learning today will be replaced in a couple of years (if that.) still, those college days with GRAMMY U fueled & helped armor me for the road i was dying to take. i hope last night left you with at least one useful thing for your own journey. much love to all yall.. im rooting for you so hard 🫶🏾
