“Don’t Give Up” is my favorite song that I’ve written so far. I wrote this song with my producer Enik Lin @iamenik in 2020 during lockdown, in the midst of the rise of anti-Asian sentiment, while I was making the transition from being a big law attorney to a pop artist and starting my entertainment company. I was still also recovering from the traumatic brain injuries I sustained from car accidents in 2019 and 2020. It was and still is a letter to my own soul and also my heart’s cry. This is a song that is about looking within at the dreams you have and finding the faith within to overcome your fears. Sometimes there are just things that we were put on earth to do. This is one of my things: to create beauty with my art and life and to inspire others to pursue possibility. The music video was written and directed by my dear friend Ron Yuan @ronyuan and includes an incredible cast and crew. Ron captures the story of me and my involvement with orgs like Hate Is A Virus @hateisavirus and Asian Americans Advancing Justice - LA @advancingjustice_la, as well as my dreams to break barriers and inspire others. He also weaves in the beautiful life of our friend Teresa Ting @teresainaction, a talented actress who also started Main Street Patrol @mainstreetpatrol to help the elderly in Flushing, Queens during the increase in anti-Asian violence. It includes footage from an actual rally and march that we participated in back in May 2021. My hope for this song and video is that they are able to uplift each individual and inspire unity across whole communities.
