Australian sailor John Bertrand said, "The fire's out of my belly, and content people don't become world champions. I'm content in that part of my life, and I'm really keen and excited to move out in New directions. That's what I'm doing."
When I crossed the finish line in Roubaix at the Track World Championships last year, it was possibly the first time I felt a deep, true sense of accomplishment. For once, I'd actually done everything I could have done to affect the outcome of a particular challenge. There was nothing more to be done.
That is why I've decided not to race at Track Worlds this year and pursue a different big goal instead. I'll still be riding plenty of bikes, but after spending this year focused on disciplines outside track, I feel refreshed, excited, and challenged in so many new ways! I'm fully focused on exciting new physical and mental challenges, but they won't be realized on the boards of a velodrome this fall.
It's truly special to know when you've done everything you set out to accomplish, and I could not have done it alone. I am grateful to the many people who helped me on the way: My amazing partner, @huplikewhoa. My coaches, @bensharp13, Sutto, @chrisdellasega, Clay Worthington, and more. The whole Lambie family. My @huubwattbike and USA teammates over the years. All the amazing sponsors that make these adventures possible, and so many more people. Your support and encouragement will carry me forward in pursuit of my new challenge. There's a season to everything, and it feels like the right thing to start a new chapter.
