🚨 Tanyel Tries: my new beauty column 🚨 I’ve been feeling not so confident recently, so when this launched last week I didn’t shout about it and wanted to get it to a point it felt “good enough” to my high standards before sharing. However, that is stupid - it’s live and I should be feeling happy about it. When writing daily about topics you like becomes your norm, it’s so easy to stop and actually appreciate and acknowledge achievements like this, rather than just seeing them as “another day”. Every Friday on @metro.co.uk I’ll be sharing my honest thoughts (no bullshit here) on product launches and beauty trends in a new series called Tanyel Tries. There will be a TikTok video to go with each article posted on Metro’s account on Thursdays (and this is really where my self-doubt was as writing is my strength, less so video) showing the product or trend in action, giving a bit more detail in a chatty style. I’d love it if you had a read/watch some weeks. Beauty is always been a personal safe haven. Sometimes when I feel down and am out walking in town, I somehow find myself naturally gravitating towards the nearest Boots/Superdrug/SpaceNK etc, usually not to shop, but just to browse. It’s a habit I’ve had since before writing about beauty was part of my day-to-day (and once even got teased for it when a former colleague asked why I went to the Superdrug in Russell Square every lunch break lol - I was just going through a rough patch). Beauty has always allowed me to get present and still my racing mind. I’ve always had a beauty stash bigger than most, extreme interest in formulation, inclusivity and efficacy, so having worked in that journalistic space for three and a half years now, I’m going to put my expertise to good use in this column. If there’s anything you’d like to see reviewed, let me know. I might not get to write about beauty forever, and this is probably the first moment I’ve taken since this launched that I’ve stopped to feel how cool it is - that I’ll be able to say later down the line, in my 20s I had a column at one stage talking about beauty in a national. Teenage Tanyel, who had a big appetite for makeup knowledge, would be thrilled.
