With one thing written on the itinerary- seeing David. We started our morning in Venice, soaking up the last views of the lagoon, the last ride up the Grand Canal and experiencing traveling Venetian style. We boarded a train to Florence, and as an American, experiencing high speed rail that will get you to an entirely new city in mere hours, compared to full days worth of travel back in the states.. that was just as exciting as whatever I meant to see in Italy history & art wise! We settled in on the train and I think that was the most peaceful moment I’ve ever known- drifting off to nap rolling on a train, with the sun from the window on my face. And then I woke up.. I woke up not moving.. on a high speed rail. What started as an issue waiting for another train to move became a delay that lasted for hours. And here comes my anxiety.. deep breaths. The itinerary was tight, only one thing to see in Florence- I only booked tickets for Galleria Dell’accademia. But watching the train updates and seeing how delayed the estimated arrival time was getting, I watched our first ticket slot pass, still sitting on the train somewhere in the middle of Italy. I bought another ticket, picked a later time.. and watched that pass too :( I was all kinds of stressed, watching the announcements and seeing our train number light up as the trains affected by the delay. And then I bought one last ticket for David- first thing in the morning, right before we would board our next train to Rome. Our next train.. could I do this again? My nerves were shot, and we had a lot to see in Rome.. what if our train tomorrow got delayed too? It’s no big deal, but with tight itineraries and short trips, it’s so stressful making sure nothing is a minute off schedule! We made it to Florence after sunset, and bursted out of the train station like a bat outta hell. I was desperate to be on my feet again. We explored Florence, crossed Ponte Vecchio, had McDonald’s, and then settled in at the hotel for some well deserved rest! Time to turn the brain off! Come back for part four! Seeing David- finally! ✨ If you love travel & travel inspired art- make sure you follow along!
