Liz Truss's first priorities must include improving the nation's mental health 📣. @elizabeth.truss.mp has been chosen as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom by Conservative Party members. Even before the pandemic the nation's mental health was already at crisis point. The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent cost of living crisis are leading to unprecedented pressures on mental health, requiring an urgent response. We need an urgent recommitment to implementing the cross-Government mental health plan and national suicide prevention strategy that demonstrates how to tackle inequalities and support marginalised communities. In the longer term, Liz Truss must shift our focus to preventing mental health problems by tackling the root cause of mental distress. This will require a comprehensive, cross-Government approach backed by increased public health funding.
