The other day I went for an afternoon adventure to go scramble an established climbing route on La Madre but as I approached the peaks I made a last minute decision to climb a new route up El Padre instead because it would involve a shorter approach and descent. I had to be back early enough to join my family for a @davidblaine magic show on the Strip (which was incredible; would strongly recommend) so it made sense to just climb the closer mountain instead. I onsight soloed what I assume is a new route up the central rib feature (slightly left in the first photo, left edge of the closer photo of the wall. Also, look at the insane looking 100m wall to the right!!!). Sadly, the upper headwall wall above my selfie had a band of bad rock about 50m up (probably 5.9+? slab up to there) which I didn’t feel comfortable soloing so I climbed back down and traversed left until I found an easy way to the summit. So my “route” wound being a bit silly since it’s not very straight. With a rope and gear there could be some great little adventure routes up there, if anyone is willing to hike their gear that far... wound up being 5k ft of vert car to car as it was...
