Missing Texas light, Peyton Colony last summer Peyton Colony in Texas Hill Country, founded in 1865 by Black freedman Peyton Roberts after the Civil War. At its height, Peyton Colony would reach a population of 400 and briefly had its own post office from the years 1898-1909 and again from 1918 until the Great Depression.
