Fast food giant Taco Bell is introducing a plant-based meat alternative at locations across the Birmingham, AL, market. The company announced yesterday that it will be testing out a proprietary plant-based protein, made with pea and soy product.
The new vegan-friendly option comes as Taco Bell's parent company, Yum! Brands, signed a deal in early 2021 with Beyond Meat, but have yet to release any food containing Beyond Meat products.
Customers can go meat-free with the new Crispy Melt, a fried tortilla filled with the soy and pea protein, non-vegan shredded cheese, and nacho cheese sauce. It’s priced at $2.49 and can be also be ordered with beef. Taco Bell fans can also try a meatless version of the Nachos BellGrande featuring the meat alternative.
