Last week to see “All Opposing Players.” An exhibiton that @white_boyfriend, @noghost_justshell and I curated for @theracialimaginary at @davidkordanskygallery. Special thanks to @space_heater_ from the gallery for working with us on this ❤️ In it, @_lotte_andersen_, @eddfornieles, and @elcleonardo took our prompt of addressing nationalism and developed it into an exhibition that considers the power of game-playing to explore the dangerous and utopian potential of a “we.” They looked to larping, puzzles, nursery rhymes, amongst other things and made a series of works that put the body in often uncomfortable positions and with uncomfortable conversations. Really, it’s their game, we’re just players. Some great text bits: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” “The moment you don’t follow protocol, the repercussions will be dangerous” “I’ll stay on my end until you decide you want to come forward and do something.” During @elcleonardo’s workshop, he began pairing people off with a question - look around the circle and choose the person who you believe to be most opposite you and acknowledge each other (all non-verbally), which followed with a series of personal questions and exercises with the partner and the group. How do we self-identify and project? How does physical movement in times surpass verbal? What is the role of movement and role of art in all of this?
