Yaz caught my attention with the incredible advocating work she has been doing by raising awareness for the skin condition and modelling . I can’t wait to see what Yasmin gets up to next, and very honoured to have her as this months champion. Yaz shares her story below ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Hi everyone! I’m Yasmin and I live in London. I developed vitiligo when I was about 8 or 9 years old . I’m still not completely sure what the cause was - no one in my family has the condition. I remember people use to ask me if I had been burned, or question what had happened to my face. Growing up and going through puberty is hard enough without the Added complexity of a skin condition. I was so confident as a child and I feel like I lost a lot of my confidence as I got older , and I attribute some of the reason for that, to my vitiligo. Even though I was fortunate enough to have a means of camouflaging my vitiligo with makeup , that came with its own set of problems. I became a prisoner to my camouflage. I couldn’t go out without covering up. At it’s worse, I couldn’t even open the door to the post man without my camouflage! Luckily, supportive family members and friends and the success of supermodel Winnie Harlow, as well as recent events such as the pandemic; have helped give me the push I needed to accept myself and feel comfortable in my own skin. I had genuinely tricked myself into thinking that no one would ever find me beautiful or attractive because of my vitiligo, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! I decided to just be open about my condition and honestly it was the best decision I ever made! So much so that I’ve even started modelling with my vitiligo! Something that I never dreamed possible before. I look forward to seeing where else my vitiligo journey takes me and I hope I can encourage others to accept themselves the same way I was encouraged too! Continued below (1/2)
