A tribute to Mahfud (mAH-food) He’s difficult to explain even for Carl Jung. Mahfud was a beautiful walking paradox. A Strict Muslim upbringing, yet a liberated French sophistication. A literal bloodline decent of sultans, yet a humble giving spirit. A fashion guru who could out pose and out walk any runway model, yet all man, and a loving husband and father. Mahfud could talk to anyone. He had this regal French accent. He would say anything on his mind and not offend. Mahfud’s tag line was “In da House” imagine this said in that glorious French accent. He would say this as an excited greeting, or as a cheers, or when we got the shot on set. Pretty much any context he would make it work. “In da House!” Mahfud had a refined palate. At parties I can only remember him drinking champagne out of a proper flute of course. After a few of those, it wasn’t uncommon to hear him sing when @oldmandune would pull out a guitar. Mahfud would not just sing along to a song, but full belt out in a trained opera voice type of sing. He was a straight up show stopper vocalist. I was slightly intimidated when I first met Mahfud around 2014 at Dune Studios in SOHO. I didn’t even dream it possible of getting this makeup legend on one of my photo sets. Then, before my eyes we quickly became friends via all the great people at Dune Studios. He became more than a makeup artist to me. Mahfud understood every facet of good image making. He became an aesthetic consultant to me and my work. We would build concepts together, and often he would even sit with me for the edits. Sometimes I would be annoyed at his persistent opinions, but god damn it, he was always right. I owe a great deal of my professional development to Mahfud. Mahfud, there is no shortage of love for you down here. Not a dry eye in the Dune family.
