One more Charleston post for the season: I tried to hike/ski the peak the other day to break in some new boots and do some cardio. My mountain boots didn’t fit in the back of my ski bindings so I was treating my light skis more like snowshoes - just a helpful aid for deep snow but not for ripping the slopes on the way down. I left the house after breakfast with the family and made it back before dinner, which was nice but didn’t leave me enough time to reach the summit. I turned back from the last saddle in order to make my self-imposed dinner cut off time. Which felt like a mature decision. I’d achieved my aims of trying out some new gear and getting my exercise, no need to unduly burden @sannimccandless for a summit I’ve visited before. Though I did wonder if this is how a middle aged person slowly loses their fire... is it being mature or being light duty?! Either way, I really appreciate the support of @thenorthface, @blackdiamond, and @lasportivana for all the gear that gets me up and down mountains like this.
