In 1997, its last full year of operations, Kai Tak Airport served 29.5 million passengers – about five million more than it was designed to handle. By contrast, the new airport on Chek Lap Kok, which opened in 1998 and replaced Kai Tak, served 28.6 million passengers in its first year of operations. That number rose to a peak of 74.6 million in 2018... before plummeting to just 1.3 million in 2021 due to pandemic restrictions. Photo by @gregforaday Tag your photos with #zolimahongkong and you'll have a chance of being featured!
