💧Today is Indigenous People's Day, and what better way to acknowledge and uplift indigenous communities than to talk about water quality and the fight for basic human resources like clean water. Ever since I was a kid, I was drawn to aquatic ecosystems as so many of us are. We take for granted everything that water gives us. Through my studies, runs, and life experiences, I've learned that to fight for people and ecosystems, we must fight for access to clean water. Fighting for clean water means fighting for life and livelihoods! 💧I would not be where I am today as an athlete or scientist without access to clean water. My role in science gives me an in depth look at impacts to fish populations and aquatic habitats as well as the carryover effects on people. My role as an athlete gives me a different perspective of landscapes I use and recreate on as well as the resources I use to replenish myself and keep running. When we talk about barriers to access in the outdoors and in science, a lot of those barriers really revolve around basic resources and not having to worry where your food or water is coming from or whether your livelihood will be gone tomorrow because of an industry that decimates your community and doesn't respect your way of life. 💧This Indigenous Peoples Day is the perfect time to call on @joebiden, @minnesotadnr, @mngovernor to @stopline3 and stop expanding and providing subsidies for oil and gas infrastructure! Not only do we know for a fact that oil and gas is not the option for reducing climate impacts, but we also know it is not the option for uplifting communities. Join me in the fight and become a water protector 💙 https://linktr.ee/stopline3 📍 Pequawket territory
