Antarctica! I’ve recently returned from a two week trip to the deep, deep south to hike Mt Vinson with @estebantopomena. Topo is a mountain guide with @alpenglowexpeditions who’s accompanying me for a few weeks while I dabble in mountaineering and learn a bit about altitude. Now that I’m back in service I’ll be posting various Antarctica photos for the next week or so, starting with these pictures of our arrival. An Icelandic airliner landing on a blue ice runway, our home at Vinson Base Camp, and Topo leading us toward the mountain with our sleds. For anyone wondering, no, Antarctica isn’t pure ice - there are rocky mountains poking out of the ice all over the continent; some of them are quite impressive. Though overall it is quite cold and generally snowy, as you’d expect. But climbing is still possible, just more challenging.
