Objective Gallery is thrilled to announce 'Cohabitations', American artist J McDonald's first international solo show will debut in Downtown Shanghai. to open on 12 January through 26 February 2023 in Building # 7, Zhang Yuan, Shanghai. A body of work exploring what it means to share space. Cohabitations give form to an alternative ecosystem of functional sculpture – from geologies and topographies to flora and fauna. In harmony with the work's ethos, the exhibition will debut at Zhuang Yuan (张园), It is recognized as modern China’s first public space. A collection of hundreds of 'shikumen' (石库门) houses turned cultural landmarks—a space for people, contemporary art, and culture. All of the works contain two or more distinct elements that intersect, overlap, and interact with each other – giving birth to something that is neither one nor the other, and often even more than the combination of the two. These 'Cohabitations' are fictional analogs to our own earthly ecosystems - but they also cross from analog to reality and become a part of our physical environment, become part of our homes, and part of ourselves.
