Peyton Colony, TX Emancipated from slavery 1866, Peyton Roberts established a freedmen’s colony in Blanco Country, Texas. Named Peyton Colony after its founder, it became a community for other Black freedmen, complete with a church, schoolhouse, post office, and residential homes. Mueni Loko Rudd, a Huston-Tillotson university graduate and liberationist living in Austin, TX. Mueni stands in front of Anthony and Louise Viaer Alumni Hall, built in 1914.
