It actually really annoys me that they named this flow rate “preemie.” Because it is actually extremely appropriate for many newborns, preemie or not. But by calling it “preemie,” it misleads people into thinking if their baby is term, they should be on a flow rate quicker than this. It misleads people into thinking their baby needs to progress to a quicker flow rate. I have had doctors question parents of 2 and 3 month olds still using a preemie flow, encouraging them, incorrectly, to increase the flow. I’ve had parents concerned if their baby can only handle a preemie flow. 📣I’m here to tell you this flow is absolutely fine to use if it works for your baby, regardless of your baby’s age📣 I actually frequently recommend this flow rate, and the one higher, Transition flow, more often than I recommend a level 1.
