Holding her daughter, Djarraran, in her arms, the proud First Nations woman—Maymuru hails from Gove Peninsula in north-east Arnhem Land, a unique part of the Northern Territory known as sunrise country—is a powerful image of femininity and strength. Reflecting in our cover story to Yuwaalaraay writer and storyteller Nardi Simpson, Maymuru speaks of sacred mornings and a grounding connection to the land.
