Replying to @Egel23 I generally saw 3 problems with your comment 1) the conflation of “original Yiddish” pronunciation with Standard German when it comes to cognates, 2) Bernstein = בערנשטיין = bernshteyn (and not שטײַן-/-shtayn) when I reference archival records, and 3) “original Yiddish” is a fraught concept when regional/dialect variation exists between different Yiddish speaking communities
