The wonderful memories of Kurt Markus as I’ve now had the time to process the loss. (as much as I can) One of them is the story of the photos taken here on a road trip through Montana with a very small crew for German Marie Claire and I can’t remember how many days we were on the road but it was for days. After a phone call I had with Eric Gabriel and we recounted the adventures and fond memories we were on. Florentine Pabst the editor and Laura Mercier, makeup, Eric, hair (and feathers). But the most beautiful thing was Kurt showing us his Montana. The drive, stories peppered with pride and his wonderful sense of humor. I’ll never forget this trip. We stopped at every Mint bar on our way midday when the sun was to high to shoot, and we played pool and had the occasional tequila shots. At one of them we found a little kitten by the wheel of his truck and I took her back with me to California. A beautiful little orange striped kitten that I named Minty. Kurt was so proud of “his” Montana. Strapping and handsome with his cowboy hat and a cheeky grin always making jokes and so aware of everything around him. A kind and sensitive gentleman.
