Being in quarantine has been an interesting experience. In a way, it reminds me of the beginning of the pandemic, when life stopped and we were all were completely isolated. This footage is from the piece I made for Inanimate 48 in April 2020, a video contest where you have 48 hours to film and edit an aerial dance piece. I was completely depressed and almost didn’t do it, but finally got up and made this in the final nine hours of the contest. I was so tired I couldn’t even write an artist’s statement, but for me this piece was about slowing down and tuning in to the pace of the forest, feeling the breath of the trees, the song of the birds, the buzz of the bees. It was my very first time editing video and it wasn’t perfect, but in the end I was very glad I did it! The past few days in quarantine have felt oddly similar. Life got so busy since “re-opening” last summer that I haven’t stopped to listen to the garden quite enough. @inanimate.dance #circustilltheworldends #makeweirdart #circusartist #aerialist #inanimate48 #sfaerialist #dancer #strongwomen #pandemic #quarantine #covid #sfcircus #redwoods #forest #forestdance #witch #spellcasting #slowlife #breath
