I’m so excited to share this beautiful project about black motherhood with you all. ✨ "A Mother's Letter" is a photography series that aims to bring visibility to the experiences of black mothers to build community. When Sophia asked me to support her with creative direction for her maternity shoot, I was more than happy to come on board and support my friend. Just four days later, Roe vs Wade was overturned. I wasn’t sure how to process the news and immediately thought about all the women in my life that had a choice and how they might feel. I knew at that moment Sophia’s shoot was bigger than just a maternity shoot. Photography and creativity have always been a way for me to channel my frustration into advocacy. I remember Sophia telling me a couple of years ago that she was given the choice of being a mother, but she knew she was not ready and made the best choice for herself. After a couple of years, Sophia decided she was ready and knew what was best for her. We spoke about sharing her journey with our community and we went right to work. Thank you Sophia for trusting me and for sharing your experience with choice , self-love, and resilience.
