It actually came into existence when water was diverted for the hydroelectric station and changed the landscape. Now there are these beautiful falls and renewable energy. A win-win! To get here, you enter the Icelandic highlands and F roads, meaning you must have 4wd on your car. We recommend all the car insurance too as these roads are full of gravel and rocks. This is actually a super easy hike to get to, about 15-20 min of flat terrain from the car park just past the hydroelectric station. An absolute must stop for any trip to the highlands.
