📣Newborn baby? Trying to find the right flow? Read this.
So, first off, this is just a drip test. It’s not standardized. But it can give a little bit of an idea on the flow of the bottle. It is important to keep in mind, however, that your baby’s latch and sucking skills play a role in the overall flow as well. So while these look very much comparable in flow, you may find one to be great for your baby and one to seem too fast/too slow for your baby. That is simply because of how your baby feeds. Every baby is different.
I will say, I use these two flow rates for newborns ALL THE TIME. They are often that perfect middle ground of not too fast and not too slow. But again, it depends on your baby!
Let’s talk about them:
✨Dr. Brown’s Transition Flow: this flow rate is right in between a preemie and level 1. It’s not in stores and many people don’t know about it. Even the Dr.Brown’s website has it under “medical” bottle nipples and not along with their other ones. You can get it on Amazon and I have them linked on my storefront. They are a really great flow for newborns and beyond!
✨Avent Natural Response Level 3: I know it seems crazy for a newborn to start on a level 3, but trust me. If you recall, Avent changed their “natural” bottle to these “natural response” bottles. They look the exact same, but the bottle nipples are SO different (I have an entire post on this, so look at that if this is news to you!). The 4 oz bottles now come with a level 2 and this level 2 is often too slow for newborns. These bottle nipples do not drip. Liquid only comes out with baby’s suck, hence me having to compress the nipple. I have found they often work well for newborns!
✨✨Both of these bottles with those flow rates are in my “Newborn Bottle Box” if you’re looking to try both!✨✨
Did either of these work for your baby? ⬇️

p.s. from what I’ve gathered, Canada still has the old Avent Natural bottles! Correct me if I’m wrong!
