AUDITION NOTICE: I am seeking 5 contemporary dancers to join my cast of 10 in “The Theremin Vignettes,” a piece I am developing through my Dancemakers Residency with @boscenterforarts and @bostondanceall . I am looking to cast dancers who are comfortable with some improvisation in process, are familiar with classical lines, and are willing & ready to dive deep into character development research. A bit about the project: “The Theremin Vignettes” is an evening-length dance-theatre production made up of a series of choreographic vignettes within the musical world of thereminist Clara Rockmore. Despite being credited as the best theremin player to have ever lived, Rockmore remains under-appreciated and overlooked for her immense contributions to electronic music. The Theremin Vignettes is, first and foremost, an ode to Clara: a Jewish woman, virtuosa and pioneer of electronic music, strong-willed and charismatic yet barely 5 feet tall. The finished piece will be an arrangement of 12 vignettes, made up of solos, duets, trios, and quartets. Each vignette is set to a track from Rockmore’s “Lost Theremin Album”: a posthumous record of Clara and her sister, pianist Nadia Reisenberg, playing iconic classical scores re-interpreted for theremin and piano.
