Yahaira / Raul — Beyond happy to share “Las Tetonas” for @documentjournal, this is a project I had the opportunity of working on earlier this year. Having been lucky enough to grow up in a such a rich and colorful country has always inspired and shaped my vision, and today I’m proud of having the chance to shed light on one of the country’s many cultural gems. In summary, Las Tetonas are men who use laughter as a tool for survival and break cultural boundaries as they do it. Mainly dressed in women’s clothes, they work as street performers in markets and town squares. Although they often come from dire backgrounds, they are not stopped by their limitations and push forward in hope of better opportunities.
