I decided to try my luck at photographing the Common Terns that have made a return to my local pond. Now i took the easy option and brought the Canon R5 out with me because of its incredible tracking Auto focus system. I dont have much experience with photographing birds in flight partly because its a struggle with tracking and keeping them in frame. But the R5 definitely greatly helped with maintaining a constant track. The only thing i did stuggle with was the terns were still far away, even at 700mm. On a few occasions they did fly near though so not all bad. Overall im more than happy with this image, which is rare. I love the composition and that the bird is directly head on. On another note i know nothing about terns or why so many people like them, to me they seem similar to a black-headed gull 🤷‍♂️
