“As far as most of my personal preferences are concerned, I'm pretty much an urbanite. I enjoy Flamin ’ Hot Cheetos, Hennessy & Lemonade, Impala Lowriders that hop, Snoop Dogg verses, and southern dudes with tattoos and gold grills. It's just my truth. On the other hand, I also love a good High Tea, yachting in international travel, jigsaw puzzling, Michelin star restaurants, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart radio while reading historical fiction. None of those would be considered hoodrat activities, but that is because most people acknowledge one trait over another because we are used to being boxed into narratives. Why do people who grow up in wealthy backgrounds get to college campuses and suddenly present “hood.” Why do kids from the hood change their lexicon in order to fit in at PWIs? Why such a focus on being one way? One of my gifts is cultural fluency and the ability to adapt in any environment. I can always find ways to feel at home because I don’t have an anchor in one specific place. My inner urbanite is certainly a part of my identity that has gotten the most air to breathe, but I have been spending time ensuring that my range is honored. This is a process I call nurturing my concrete garden.“ Excerpt, Nurturing Concrete Gardens @hndevos Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them Jeremiah 29:5 Purchase Faith Musings through Linktree in bio 📖
