“Making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass and I’m homebound” 🎶 - Vanessa Carlton This muskoxen bull is making its way through the Arctic Tundra to round up its females. They *musk* not be interested in his funky smell. 🥁 Did you know that the muskox has been around since before the Ice Age? Known as Oomingmak, or “bearded one ” in the Inupiaq language, they have outlived wooly mammoths, saber-toothed tigers and many other animals from the last Ice Age. And as you probably got from their name, the males emit a distinctive smell during the summer mating season in hopes of making all the ladies swoon. This is a similar approach millennial teenage boys took by dousing themselves with Axe body spray. But at least for the muskox, if all goes according to plan, females will rush to his side. So next time you’re in Alaska, and you smell something weird and see one of these guys well...let’s just hope you don’t look like a female muskox. 👀 📸: Florian Schulz 🗺: Arctic National Wildlife Refuge #muskox #arcticnationalwildliferefuge #alaska
