Summer may be over, but we will be seeing remnants of your summertime margaritas for a little bit longer 🤪 🕵🏻‍♀️One of the many reasons I love being a dermatologist is the chance to play detective. One great example is being able to ask someone who presents with a tan, brown irregular patch or drip marks, how’d they like their margarita with citrus fruits (or celery, wild parsnips or dill among others - take your pick 😉). While self-limiting, these brown patches, medically referred to as phytophotodermatitis, may be noticed several days to weeks after the initial exposure. Pro tip: it’s important to wear sunscreen even after the hyperpigmentation is noticed to help prevent the area from becoming darker!!️ Have you experienced phytophotodermatitis?
