Stream my new single Béy on all platforms 💿 I made this song nearly a year ago while I was going through a lot of personal challenges. It may have seemed like everything was great; I was in a very nice crib, had money coming in from my freelance business, I was partying almost every weekend, but deep down I knew there was something wrong. I was battling with alcoholism, addiction and traumas from my past started bubbling to the surface. A few months ago I started speaking to a therapist which has been a tremendous help but nothing compares to the humbling experience of traveling to Senegal 🇸🇳 I have constantly had to check myself and my privilege during my time here. Living conditions are modest for most people to say the least yet everyone I see is happy regardless of their situation. Alcohol and drugs are strictly forbidden, which as you can imagine is tough for someone who hasn’t gone without either for longer than a month over the last 12 years... I have learned a lot about my family history and my deep roots here. I have taken part in esoteric rituals to help cleanse myself of my afflictions and I am finally beginning to have a new understanding of who I am. Béy (Goat in Wolof) Everything I am going through is temporary. There will be a lot of sacrifices on the journey that I am on but as long as I stay strong and level headed I will prevail and eventually receive all the blessings and opportunities waiting for me which will allow me to in turn give back to my family and the people of Senegal.
