Tomorrow is MLK Day. He was a leader and a visionary who should be celebrated, as many will do tomorrow. We'll hear many politicians, on the left and on the right, quoting him reverently. Here's one aspect of the great man's life they'll shy away from: his focus in his later years on peace, and on war as imperialism and a way to funnel money away from the needs of poor Americans.
Today, there is not one national Democrat opposed to war. While I don't trust them, a few right-wingers are speaking out vs the war in Ukraine. Progressives did send out a letter to Biden requesting no blank check for Ukraine. But they are such wimps in service of the establishment they were elected to fight, that they withdrew the letter within 24 hours after corporate Democrats funded by weapons manufacturers attacked them.
King was assassinated exactly one year after giving his "Beyond Vietnam" speech. That's how dangerous the message of peace is to almost Republican and Democratic politicians. PS: King turned out to be right about Vietnam...
