People with monkeypox should be considered infectious until after the sores scab over and fall off. Early data shoes the lesions of monkey pox are more contagious than respiratory droplets. In study published by The Lancet, of 181 monkeypox cases in Spain, swabs of lesions contained approximately 1,000 times greater level of virus than swabs taken from the mouth and throat of infected people.
