Happy third re-birthday to Harper! This time in 2019, Harper received a life-saving bone marrow transplant at the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at the Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC. Thus, becoming her re-birthday. At age 3, Harper was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare type of blood cancer, which then progressed to acute myeloid leukemia. Thanks to the @bethematch volunteer registry, Harper found her life-saving bone marrow donor a few hundred miles away in Utah. The years following her transplant, Harper's family was able to connect with the donor—Kortnie—and thank her for her selfless act. The two quickly became "bone marrow besties." Harper is now a precocious, happy first grader who loves to do art and play soccer. This year, she celebrated her re-birthday with a puppy-themed day filled with donuts, a bounce house, pizza and ice cream sundaes!
