The week, the nation and much of the world, are in a period of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Whatever your thoughts on the royal family, I think we can all agree that the Queen was a powerful and dignified matriarch. She was a voice of calm and assurance for people during troubling times. In a 48 hour period following her death, I counted 15 negative articles about Meghan and Harry (but mainly Meghan) in one publication, and 12 in another. The Queen was a unifying figurehead for a divided nation - and even after death, she reunited "the fab four". They put their differences aside in full view of the nation to come together to pay their respects and mourn their grandmother. Instead of praising this display of solidarity, the bullying and lies about Meghan and Harry continued by the usual suspects in the media. My fellow panellist, Angela Levin, even claimed that William and Kate ONLY did this to stop Meghan and Harry stepping out on their with an American film crew. It whipped the masses into a hysteria - and guess what? It turned out not to be true. Just before we filmed this, one of the panellists exclaimed in the green room: "I cannot wait to bitch about Meghan!" as others agreed. I sat shocked silence. The hatred that consumes these people is actually a sickness. I listened as they said Meghan was trying to steal the limelight from the Queen as she stepped out as part of the Fab Four. What would they have said if she didn't appear? She was there to support her husband in grieving the death of his grandmother. She came out despite all of her feelings about how she was treated by the Establishment (much echoing what Princess Diana had previously said) and our country's media. If there are ZERO negative articles about Andrew - a man who paid £12million to evade justice for his alleged sex crimes - because we should respect that he is a man grieving his mother... Then perhaps we should stop the bullying of Meghan Markle, the wife of the Queen's grandson. As James Moore said in the Independent: "perhaps we can learn something from this display of solidarity, and finally leave them alone." This was live on GB NEWS on 11tb September.
