What a disaster. We started our day in the dark, early morning in Piazza del Popolo and I was an anxious mess. Like I said, as much as I love to travel, it makes me so anxious. And part of that anxiety is giving up control and stressfully making sure things go to plan.. so when I booked a bus tour from Rome to Pompeii & Positano and back.. I had to really think if I wanted to do this. Being on a bus in a different country.. there was a lot that could go wrong in a tight schedule. And I don’t like situations where a) I don’t have access to a bathroom and b) I’m not in control. So a three hour bus ride to Pompeii and three hours back? Not really feeling confident about it. But it was the only way to make my big dreams come true! So I did it. We stopped halfway at a little rest station somewhere between Rome and Pompeii. The view from the bus window was perfect. Watching the sun rise, feeling that classic vacation vibe of a road trip.. we got breakfast and got back on the bus. Next stop, Pompeii. Such a disaster! We switched tour guides to a local guide who brought us into Pompeii.. but he did not bring us back out 😂 he was very no nonsense, and didn’t like tourists.. he fought with a lot of the group and set off a lot of people, making inappropriate comments and really just making people angry. But what irked me was the lack of a head count, the lack of insight like hey these people just got off a bus, maybe take the tour at their pace.. but I get it. Pompeii is HUGE. And he wanted to show us the best. So we spent our whole time in Pompeii trying to get out, and make sure we got to our group- because all our belongings for the day were on the bus! And if we didn’t make that bus back to Rome!! Ah!!! I was so excited to see Pompeii and dive into the history and stories.. but I guess it’s a reason to go back. Then we reunited with our first tour guide, Claire. She brought us to Positano and we had literally one hour to take in the sights before getting back on the bus! We grabbed some pizza, and next thing we knew, we were on the road to Rome! It was definitely a day that just didn’t go right. I definitely threw a tantrum and I’m not proud of my attitude.. but it was really hard realizing your anxieties were like, coming true and how the effffff were we gonna get back to Rome! It was SO stressful and disappointing. But- I would recommend this tour a thousand percent. Just make sure you don’t lose your local guide in Pompeii 🙈 #travellovers #travelartist #travelinspired #wanderlustvibes #wanderlusttravel #pompeii #positano #roadtrip #italytravel
